Obituary of Jimmie Hoefer

Jimmie Lee Hoefer, 75, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Sunday, May 9, 2010, at his residence. Mr. Hoefer, son of the late W. L. "Bill" and Ruth (Young) Hoefer, was born January 23, 1935, in Ripley County, Missouri. He was retired from the Ripley County Soil and Water Conservation as a technician. Mr. Hoefer was a life-long farmer and enjoyed hunting, fishing and being on his farm. He loved to square dance and had taught it at one time. Mr. Hoefer was a member of the Missouri Farm Bureau, Ripley County Cattlemens Association, Ripley County Livestock Producers, Ripley County Pork Producers, Ripley County Fair Board, Ripley County Extension Council, Missouri National Guard and was a former member of the Young Farmer Association. He was involved in the local and area chapters of the FFA and was named a national alumni, which was very important in his life. Mr. Hoefer was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Wilson and Towles cemeteries. He was instrumental in the organization of the Ripley County Fair in the 1970's and helped start the local FFA Alumni Chapter. Mr. Hoefer was a member the Doniphan Church of Christ. On October 13, 1957, he was married to Beverly Kathleen Sipes at the Doniphan Church of Christ. She preceded him in death on September 28, 2006. Surviving are one daughter, Leesa (Martin) Monfee, and one son, Doug (Teresa) Hoefer, both of Doniphan; two sisters, Nancy (Tom) Bridges of Doniphan and Sharon (Dennis) Tucker of Benton, Kentucky; three brothers, Wyman Hoefer and Barney (Alice) Hoefer, both of Doniphan and Boyce (Frankie) Hoefer of Poplar Bluff; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; a multitude of extended relatives and a community full of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant son, Jimmie Leland Hoefer, and one brother, Delbert Hoefer. Visitation for Mr. Hoefer will be Wednesday evening, May 12, 2010, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will take place Thursday, May 13, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with Reverend Steve Sanders officiating. Burial will be in the Towles Cemetery near Doniphan. Memorials may be made to the Doniphan F.F.A. Chapter.
