Obituary of Joe Anne Ripley

Joe Anne Ripley, 80, lifelong resident of Doniphan, Missouri, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Mrs. Ripley, daughter of the late Sherman and Edith (Faris) Phillips, was born December 13, 1929, in Doniphan. She was a former secretary for Shemwell Insurance Agency and the Doniphan Elementary School. Mrs. Ripley retired as a case worker/supervisor for Missouri Department of Family Services, Ripley County Family Support Division after 36 years of employment. From 1980-2000 she, alongside her husband, Paul, owned and operated Ripley's Photography in Doniphan creating lasting memories for area families through pictures and producing award-winning photography through still life. Mrs. Ripley was a member of the Lectus Club, several bridge clubs and the Doniphan United Methodist Church. She enjoyed watching hummingbirds and especially loved scarlet begonias. On July 8, 1956, she was married to Paul Ripley at the Doniphan United Methodist Church. He survives. Also surviving are one sister, Chloe Marie Martin of Springfield, Missouri; two nephews, Phillip Martin and Bruce Martin, both of Springfield; five cousins, Lloyd (and Glenda) Phillips, Monte Phillips and Phyllis (and George) Leonard, all of Doniphan, Marilee (and Mills) Schanuel of Springfield, and Bill (and Barbara) Phillips of Houston, Texas; one great-nephew, Matthew Martin of Springfield; and one great-niece, Lauren Martin of Poplar Bluff. Visitation will be Friday evening, June 18, 2010, from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow on Saturday morning, June 19, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with Brother Kent Wilfong officiating. Burial will be in the Doniphan City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Doniphan United Methodist Church.
