Danny Lee Mitchum, 67, of Fairdealing, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at his residence in rural Ripley County.
Mr. Mitchum, son of the late John and Lilly Lorene (Ballow) Mitchum, was born February 13, 1948, in Caruthersville, Missouri. He had been a respiratory therapist. Mr. Mitchum had worked in healthcare his entire life, employed 32 years at the John J. Pershing VA Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He enjoyed camping, being on the river, racing, motorcycles and traveling overseas. Mr. Mitchum was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and had served in the Vietnam War.
On September 4, 1992, he was married to Robin Hayes in Ripley County and she survives.
Also surviving are 2 sons, Zachary Mitchum of Sikeston, Missouri, and Joshua Mitchum of Doniphan; 2 sisters, Louise Phillips and Sue Bennett, both of Doniphan; 1 brother, John Mitchum of Doniphan; 2 grandchildren, Caitlyn Palmer of Poplar Bluff and Joplyn Sadler of Chaffee, Missouri; and his mother/father-in-law, Phyllis and Roy Elsworth of Poplar Bluff. He proudly called Roy his best friend and “bud”.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 1, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri.
Memorials may be made to Southeast Missouri Food Bank in Sikeston, Missouri.
