Obituary of Abram Forney Staton

Abram Forney Staton, 79, of Doniphan, Missouri, departed this life Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Mr. Staton, son of Abram Francis and Myrtle (Bentley) Staton, was born August 30, 1936, in Montgomery, Alabama. He had graduated from Broseley High School in Broseley, Missouri, class of 1956. Mr. Staton had been a shipping clerk in a door and door frame company and, thereafter, for 13 years had worked as head of maintenance at the Current River Nursing Center. He enjoyed gardening and being with his family. Mr. Staton was a member of the Oak Grove Church of God and had served with the National Guard. On November 24, 1956, he was married to Wanda Jane Jones in St. Louis County, Missouri, and she survives. Also surviving are 2 sons; Terry Staton and Mark Staton, both of Doniphan; 1 grandchild, Stephanie Battles of Poplar Bluff; 2 great-grandchildren, Jaxson Rayne and Desiree Jane of Poplar Bluff; 1 sister, Jewel Johnson of Barre, Vermont; and 2 brothers, Kenneth Staton of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Norman Staton of Sebring, Florida. Mr. Staton was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Francis Calvert and Dorothy Walker; and 2 brothers, George Staton and Albert Staton. Visitation will take place Friday evening, December 4, 2015, from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be Saturday morning, December 5, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with Brother Danny Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
