Bertha Lee Portwood, 77, of Doniphan, Missouri, passed away Monday, December 14, 2015, at her daughter’s residence in Doniphan. Mrs. Portwood, daughter of Arthur and Margie Evelyine (Mulugen) Becker, was born November 13, 1938, in Portageville, Missouri. She had been an employee of Vitronic Manufacturing and retired from Missouri Home Health. Mrs. Portwood like to sew, bowl, do gardening and she especially loved being with her grandchildren. She was a member of Briar Baptist Church and attended New Life Pentecostal Church. On September 11, 1958, she was married to Jack E. Portwood in New Madrid, Missouri, and he preceded her in death on May 23, 2006. Surviving are 4 daughters: Sonja Portwood, Sandra Robinson, Sharon Portwood and Barbara Portwood, all of Doniphan; 2 sisters, Helen Hearn of Myrtle, Mississippi, and Anita Johnson of Springdale, Arkansas; 3 brothers, Eugene Becker of Halls, Tennessee, Homer (Sue) Becker of Arnold, Missouri, and Billy Ray (Joyce) Becker of Portageville, Missouri; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and very special loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 daughter, Donna Portwood; 1 son, Jack Portwood, Jr.; 1 granddaughter, Bertha Jo Robinson; 1 great-granddaughter, Zoey Lynn Gribble; and her in-laws, Castle and Elsie (Ford) Portwood. Visitation will start at noon Saturday, December 19, 2015, at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Harold Shepard officiating. Burial will be in the Doniphan City Cemetery.
