Obituary of Gaylin Ellis Thompson

Gaylin Ellis Thompson, 74, of Doniphan, Missouri, departed this life Monday, January 25, 2016, at Southeast Healthcare of Ripley County in Doniphan. Mr. Thompson, son of Elvis Ray and Maurice (Hooper) Thompson, was born July 21, 1941, in the Shiloh community of Ripley County, Missouri. He had been state of Missouri Director of Family Services in Wayne and Carter counties and had retired from the Ripley County division. Gaylin was an avid gardener and he especially loved growing tomatoes. He also enjoyed working on vehicles. Mr. Thompson was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Vietnam conflict. He was a member of the Doniphan First Baptist Church. On November 11, 1972, he was married to Linda Gary at the First Baptist Church in Doniphan and she survives. Also surviving are one son, Ted Thompson of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; one sister, Eddie Sue Seals of Doniphan; one brother, Mark (and Barb) Thompson of Doniphan; and three nieces, Pam, Karla and Kim. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant son, Gary Thompson. Visitation will take place Wednesday evening, January 27, 2016, from 5-8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be Thursday morning, January 28, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Monty Flanagan officiating. Burial will follow in the Doniphan City Cemetery with full military honors.
