Presley James (PJ) Scott, 82, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Thursday, September 1, 2011, at the St. Anthony Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Mr. Scott, son of the late Lawson Alonzo and Birley Evelyn (Bohannon) Scott, was born February 25, 1929, in Marshall, Arkansas. He was co-owner of Midwest Lumber & Supply Company in Gary, Indiana, until its closing in 1995. Thereafter, he worked with his brother, Leroy Scott, at Lee's Autos Sales in Black Oak, Indiana, until he retired to his farm in Doniphan in 2005. He was of Protestant faith and he enjoyed spending time with his family, bowling and being outdoors on his farm.
Mr. Scott was a Mason of the Griffith Lodge No. 735, F. & A.M., a 32nd member Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, South Bend Valley, Indiana, and member of Orak Shriners, Michigan City, Indiana.
On February 19, 1949, he married Dema Marie Clayton in Piggott, Arkansas, who survives him. Mr. and Mrs. Scott were married 62 years and have two daughters who also survive him; Deborah Lathum and husband Teddy of Doniphan, Missouri, and Jacalyn Loudermilk and husband David of Crown Point, Indiana. Mr. Scott is also survived by four brothers and four sisters: Frieda Kelly of Sutter, California, Evelyn Polk of Matthews, Missouri, Leonard Scott of Thornton, Illinois, Jeanne Broadaway (David) of Hobart, Indiana, Vonda Keith (Junior) of Matthews, Missouri, and Keith "Bud" Scott of Matthews, Missouri.
Mr. Scott is also survived by four grandchildren; Dwan Lathum of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, T. Jay Lathum (Jamie) of Doniphan, Missouri, Timothy Loudermilk (Holly) of Crown Point, Indiana, and Kristyn Loudermilk of Crown Point, Indiana, and three great grand-daughters, Skye Lynn Rush of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Aubrea Lovie Morrow and Kinslea Jayde Lathum of Doniphan, Missouri. He is also survived by dozens of nieces, nephews, family members and friends who loved him very much. Mr. Scott was preceded in death by three brothers, Jerry, Leroy and Wesley Scott, and one sister Joann Scott.
Visitation will be at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan, Missouri on Sunday, September 4th from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, September 5th in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Doniphan City Cemetery.
