Obituary of Kathryn Lee Headley
Kathryn Lee Headley, 84, life-long resident of Doniphan, Missouri, departed this life Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Mrs. Headley, daughter of Earl and Beatrice (Anderson) O’Dell, was born December 11, 1933, in rural Ripley County, Missouri. She had retired from the Doniphan R-1 School District after many years of teaching special education at the Doniphan Jr. High School. Mrs. Headley was very caring and compassionate about the students she taught. She was frequently recognized and approached by former students even after her retirement.
Reading was a favorite past-time and she had an extensive library of books. Kathryn also enjoyed golf, traveling and playing bridge. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Doniphan.
On May 26, 1951, she was married to Harold Headley in Pocahontas, Arkansas, and he survives. She was a very loving and devoted wife. During their 67 years of marriage, she and Harold traveled throughout the United States, played many rounds of golf and cards and often enjoyed time on Current River.
Family was very important to Mrs. Headley and she especially enjoyed time spent with her brother and family and Harold’s family. All her many nieces and nephews were her pride and joy.
Also surviving are 1 brother, Bill O’Dell of Paducah, Kentucky; and numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother, Ronnie O’Dell.
Visitation will begin at noon Sunday, July 8, 2018, at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Bruce Johnston officiating. Burial will be in the Bardley Cemetery.
