Obituary of Viola Collins

Viola Collins, 93, resident of Ripley County, Missouri, entered her heavenly home on Friday, September 14, 2018. Viola was born on December 2, 1924, to Austin and Mary Smith in Doniphan, Missouri. On April 6, 1943, she was united in holy matrimony to Ted W. Collins, who preceded her in death in 1984. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Teddy Collins and Ned L. Collins.

 

Viola worked at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas at a young age before returning to Ripley County where her and Ted farmed for many years. In addition, she worked at Vitronic and U Save Mart. Viola was an avid bingo player, loved to fish, excellent seamstress and a wonderful cook, always providing big meals for family gatherings. But above all, she truly loved her family and to her children, she was one of the strongest, most hard working, and the most precious mom they could have ever been blessed with in their lives. Viola was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church.

 

Surviving are daughters Donna (Don) Phillips of Springfield, Missouri; Lynda (Harold) Murray, Fairdealing; and Joanne (Rad) Talburt of Doniphan. Also surviving is her daughter in law, Joy Collins; 12 grandchildren: Angie Bellati, Teddy B. Collins, Tim Collins, Samantha Roam, Kim Newbill, Holly Dixon, Scott Phillips, Derick Phillips, Mandy Seaman, Shayne Talburt, Bryce Talburt and Collin Murray; 17 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.

 

Viola was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Patty Collins, and three great grandsons: John Collins, Cody Collins, and Connor Seaman. In addition, she mourned the passing of all 6 siblings: Ruby Day, Roscoe Smith, Lyman Smith, Jewel Smith, Carrie Jacobs, and Judy Hinton.

 

Services for Viola will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. and continue to 12:00 p.m. with funeral immediately following at noon. Bro. Jim Johnson will officiate, and burial will be in the Amity Cemetery.
