Clarence Franklin (Oz) Hay, 83, departed this world Sunday, July 19, 2020 at his home in Pelham, GA. The former Doniphan, MO resident was born April 12, 1937 to the late Clarence and Pearl (Davis) Hay in Parma, MO.
On June 30, 1956, Oz married his beloved wife of 64 years, Janice Elaine Hayes, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are one son, Dan (Sheri) Hay of Rockford, IL; one daughter, Sherry (Tim) McCoy of Pelham, GA; his brother, Bill (Carol) Hay of Doniphan, MO; one nephew, Daryl (Shari) Hay of Doniphan, MO; his grandchildren, Mallory (Wesley) Hay of Rockford, IL, Zakk (Deanna) Hay of Rockford, IL, Josh (Lillian) McCoy and Anthony (Heather) McCoy of Pelham, GA. Beloved great-grandchildren are Jameson, Hannah, JR, Ryker, Landyn, Piper, and Macaila.
Oz was employed and retired as a machinist and supervisor from Sems-Camcar manufacturing in Rockford, IL. In 1981 he and his wife, Elaine, opened a fabrication and mechanical business along with his brother, Bill, and wife, Carol, in Sikeston, MO. In 1998 the business was split with Oz and Elaine continuing on until illness forced his retirement in October of 2019. Oz was a motorsports enthusiast who raced top fuel drag cars, stock cars, and 2wd pulling trucks among other racing activities. Notable achievements include being the second person to officially exceed 200 mph while setting a world speed record. He was named IHRA crew chief of the year in 1977 and won multiple truck pulling championships while being an ambassador for the sport.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 23, 2020 in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Doniphan, MO from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow immediately after with interment at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Briar, MO. Pallbearers are Daryl Hay, Zakk Hay, Tim McCoy, Anthony McCoy, Josh McCoy, and Danny Robinson.
