Obituary of Joey Daryl Blackwell

Joey Daryl Blackwell, 51, departed this life Saturday, May 22, 2021 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO. He was born August 25, 1969 in Poplar Bluff, MO to the late Jimmy Dalton and Darlene (Adams) Blackwell.
As with many in the Blackwell family, Joey was an automobile salesman. He loved sports and excelled in baseball. After graduating from Doniphan High School in 1987, Joey’s baseball jersey #1 was retired. Also in 1987, Joey was drafted by the New York Yankees and played in the minor leagues for two years. Following his time in the minor league, Joey attended Mineral Area College. He also enjoyed softball and golfing.
Surviving are his children, Malarie Stonecipher of Poplar Bluff and Jackson Leroux of Doniphan; one brother, Jimmy “Jimbo” (Donna) Blackwell of Eminence, MO; his sister, Jami (Rob) Brown of Nixa, MO; and well as many nieces and nephews, dear friends, and relatives.
Visitation will be at Edwards Funeral Home Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, May 28, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Hunt-White Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Joey’s name to the Doniphan Baseball Program.
