Obituary of Lynn Maples

Carmen Lynette Maples, daughter of the late Elvie Hornback and the late Alfreda (Howard) Hornback, was born November 6, 1942 in St. Louis, MO and departed this life at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center on July 13, 2021. Lynn was united in marriage to Bill J. Maples on September 2, 1962 in Paragould, AR; they were married 58 years, living in Florissant, MO for the majority of those years and in Doniphan the last 20 years following retirement. Surviving are her husband, Bill, and their three children: Sean (Billie) Maples, Greg (Cathy) Maples, and Betsy (Mark) Crihfield. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Daniel (Olivia); Jayke (Taylor); Nathan, Rileigh, Macy (Nathan); Max, Madlyn, Sofia (Joby); Audri, and one great-granddaughter who lit up her life, Aspen Lee. Lynn is survived also by her brother, Steven (Lisa) Hornback, and her sister, DeeDee (John) Broadhead, and a multitude of other relatives and friends. Those preceding her in death in addition to her parents include sister Sherri Moody and brother Dean Hornback. Lynn always had a smile for everyone. She was a devout Christian and wanted all her children and grandchildren and everyone she knew to obey the gospel and live a Christian life. She was a member of the Church of Christ for most of her life, and her church home was with the Doniphan congregation. After moving to Doniphan, Lynn accepted a position as Current River Heritage Museum Curator and Tourism Director. She held this position for 13 years. In the past, she had worked as a director for a very large daycare center and led the daily operations of several businesses for many years. Up until her death, she served as president of the Ponder Boosters. She was a member of the local FCE (Family & Community Education) Club and previously served as Missouri State Treasurer, Missouri State President, and National President of this organization. She attended and was involved in this organization’s conventions regularly on the state, national, and international levels. Her happy times included family and friends at their lake house with many fun memories and traditions. She loved to sew and constructed many beautiful wedding dresses and formal gowns for special occasions for both family and friends. Lynn was an avid St. Louis sports fan and enjoyed watching and attending both Cardinals baseball and Blues hockey games. Her hobbies included reading, working crossword puzzles, sudoku and brainteasers. She also very much enjoyed “being a grandma.” Services will be held at Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan on Saturday, July 24, 2021. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. with the funeral immediately following. Burial will be at Shirley Cemetery.
