Gene Friend, better known as “Mule”, departed this life Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, MO. He was a 72-year-old resident of Doniphan, MO and was born December 26, 1948 in Ripley County to the late Jesse and Mildred (Majors) Friend.
Gene was an over-the-road truck driver. He enjoyed hunting, sighting in guns in preparation for the hunt, and playing pool. He was friendly and always wore a smile. Gene had served in the United States Army.
Surviving are his three children, Roy Dale (Katie) Friend, Angie Friend, and Bunkie (Teresa) Friend, all of Doniphan; his fiancé, Linda “Annie” Russell of Doniphan, and a sister, Mary Davis of Pensacola, FL. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jakelyn, Jenna, Jaysa, Austin, Katelyn, Ethan, and Bailey, and great-grandchildren, Krease, Jessa, and Cypruss.
Gene was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Bettis, and two brothers, Johnny Goans and Bud Shelton.
Visitation will be at Edwards Funeral Home on Monday, August 16, 2021 from 9:00 a.m.to 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 10:00. Pastor Larry Earl will be officiating. Burial will be in Bellview Cemetery.
