Obituary of Bob Cates

Robert Dean Cates, 63-year-old resident of Doniphan, MO, departed this life Monday, October 11, 2021 at Cox South in Springfield, MO. He was born June 30, 1958 in San Pedro, CA to Opal (Gilliam) Phillips and the late Willis Iver Cates.
Bob was a skilled plumber. He loved spending time on the river. He liked to hunt, go motorcycle riding, and play horseshoes. Bob also spent time collecting arrowheads and antiques.
Surviving are his children, Cassie (Travis) Cannon and Rob (Calista) Cates all of Doniphan, and Thomas Cates; sisters, Janis (Ray) Steele of Scottsville, KY, Mendy (Kenneth) Reece of Doniphan, Vicki (Rick) Nelson of Maynard, AR, Crystal Craft of Doniphan, and Angela Taylor of Malden, MO; his brothers, Ricky Cates of Salsburg, Austria, Randy (Ladonna) Cates of Doniphan, Mike Cates, also of Doniphan, Willis Cates of Farmington, MO, and Blake (Chrystal) Cates of West Plains, MO; his stepbrother, Donald Keith Phillips; 10 grandchildren. Also surviving is a special best friend, Jenny Boyles.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Willis Iver Cates, and his stepfather, Donald W. Phillips.
Visitation will be in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, October 16, 2021 beginning at 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Johnston Chapel Cemetery.
