Obituary of Margie E. Widner
Margie Evelin (Casey) Widner, 90, of Sherman, IL, passed away October 13, 2021. She lived previously near Bell City, MO from 1949 to 1959, near Fairdealing, MO, from 1959 to 1999, and Doniphan, MO from 1999 to 2019. She was born on February 4, 1931 in a country farm house near Enola, Arkansas, to Rufus and Bessie Casey. She was one of 15 children, with 13 surviving to adulthood.
Margie married Charles L. Widner on February 12, 1949 in Conway, Arkansas. Charles passed away on March 21, 1995 at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
Surviving are her two sons, Gary Widner (Geytha), of Springfield, IL, and Ronnie Widner (Beverly), of Bella Vista, AR; and seven grandchildren, Tanya Glover of Greenwich, RI, Karessa Widner of Gainesville, FL, Jenna McCrady of Springfield, IL, Leah Poole of Fortson, GA, and Sarah & Elizabeth Widner, both of Anaheim, CA. She has six great grandchildren, Ryan Widner of Gainesville, FL, Alex McCrady of Decatur, IL, Alison & Clifton McCrady, both of Springfield, IL, and Alice & Millie Poole of Fortson, GA.
She is also survived by two brothers, Russel Casey of La Porte, IN, and Randel Casey of Vilonia, AR, as well as four sisters: Mildred Archer of Berrien Springs, MI, Hazel Fairchild of Conway, AR, Norma Jane Varner of Vilonia, AR, and Jewel Quesnel of Sherwood, AR, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one grandson, Benjamin Widner, four brothers, Fayber Casey, Quention, Elwood, and Norwood, as well as four sisters, Ruby Kliemchen, Carma Moore, Climie Curtis, and Ollie Murel Casey.
She was a beloved, hard-working housewife her entire life, until October 1st, 2019, when she moved into Villa West Assisted Living in Sherman, IL. She grew up with her large family, sharecropping cotton in northeast Arkansas. She always admired and was happy to tell you she was a cotton picker. She was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an outstanding cook and loved her entire family.
She loved maintaining a neat home both inside and out. Many people asked her if she hired an interior decorator. She bought a lot of items for her home at flea markets and yard sales. She worked hard in her yard, picking up leaves and keeping her chat (white rock) out back clean of weeds. She became an avid reader recently in assisted living.
Margie attended the First Baptist Church when she could, while living in Doniphan, MO. Longtime friend and yard man, Fred Wiktorek, Deacon, will be officiating her service at her request. Visitation will be October 22, 2021, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel, located at 606 Walnut Street, in Doniphan, Missouri beginning at 11:00 a.m. with the funeral services to follow at noon. Burial will be in the Veterans Section of the Memorial Gardens Cemetery, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, next to her beloved husband, Charles.
