Obituary of Paul E. Frye

Paul E. Frye, 90, of Summerdale, AL and formerly of Doniphan, MO, departed this life Thursday, December 2, 2021. He was born January 5, 1931 in Kewanee, MO to the late Met. R. and Cova (James) Frye.
Paul had been employed with the Doniphan Telephone Company and installed the first rotary phone in Doniphan. He also was in charge of running all the phone lines. He retired after serving the area for over 50 years and through name changes of the company, which was Alltel when he retired. After retiring from the telephone company, Paul went into business for himself with Frye’s Grocery, and then later he developed Nu-weigh which he owned and manufactured equipment. Paul had a quick wit and was ready with a response to any comment or question. He loved to fish and appreciated a nice yard. He liked flowers and grew a variety of fruit trees. Paul was always tinkering and continually had a project going.
On November 11, 1963, Paul married Addie Mae “Betty” Powell in Festus, MO. She preceded him in death on February 15, 2020.
Surviving are his children, Donna (Leotis) Kirby of Doniphan, Martha “Susie” (Sanchez) Frye Austin, and Brad (Rachel) Frye, all of Summerdale, AL; a sister, Norma Patrick of Doniphan; and his grandchildren, Derrick Kirby of Orange Beach, AL, Devin Kirby of Doniphan, Heather Guy of Fairhope, AL, Whitney Gehman of Greenwood, DE, and Allison Frye Petracca of Gulf Shores, AL; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 beginning at noon with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Tim Tipton will be officiating. Burial will be at Towles Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in his name St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Cancer Research.
