Obituary of James Elmer Murphey

James Elmer Murphey, 83-year-old resident of Gatewood, MO, departed this life, Monday, January 16, 2023. He was born March 6, 1939, in Gatewood, MO to the late Elmer and Ila (Cates) Murphey.

James had been a sawmiller. He liked to spend time hunting and fishing and enjoyed old hot rod cars.

Surviving are his children, James Andrew Murphey of Doniphan, Sandra Murphey, also of Doniphan, and Jackie McGee of Naylor, MO; of two brothers, Edward Murphey and Melvin Murphey, both of Gatewood; five grandchildren, Nick, Tyler, Kaylin, Dawson, and Morgan; and two great-grandchildren, Haven and Malaki.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Murphey, and a sister, Beulah Coonce.

Visitation will be in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, January 21 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at noon. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
