Obituary of Joyce Marie Jeffries

Joyce Marie Jeffries, 76-year-old resident of Poplar Bluff, MO, departed this life Tuesday, March 21, 2023. She was born March 4, 1947, in Doniphan, MO to Jerald and Vergie (Jarrett) Emmons.

Joyce co-owned and operated the Stringtown Grocery for over 30 years. She loved visiting and connecting with people who stopped in the store. These people quickly became friends and held her in high esteem for her kindness. Joyce liked to garden, crochet, and work crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed painting, fishing and playing games on her computer. She loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. Spending time with family and friends was time she cherished. Joyce attended Kerns Chapel Church.

Surviving are her children, Rebecca (Lori) Jeffries of Cape Girardeau, MO, and Jayne Jeffries and Melissa (Chris) Halcumb, all of Poplar Bluff; brothers, Tom (Karen) Emmons of Grand Rivers, KY, Steve (Cathy) Emmons of Poplar Bluff, and Michael Emmons also of Poplar Bluff; six grandchildren, Erynn Colligan, Hannah Halcumb, Garrett (Shelby) Halcumb, Caty Halcumb, Dystine Day, and William Day; and a great-grandchild, Boone Halcumb.

Joyce was preceded in death by her significant other, Carroll French.

Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, March 26, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.. The funeral service will be held Monday, March 27, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Kerns Chapel Church. Burial will follow at Kerns Chapel Cemetery.
