Obituary of Larry Thompson

James Larry Thompson, Springfield, MO, was born September 26, 1942, in Doniphan, MO, to Henrey and Velva (Skaggs) Thompson. He departed this life October 3, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO, at the age of 81, surrounded by family.

Larry had been a life-long Doniphan resident until moving to Springfield to be close to his son, James, in the last few years. He was a proud graduate of Doniphan High School. Larry had owned and operated Thompson’s Drive-In, which was a popular diner and place to “hang out”. He enjoyed getting away from the responsibilities of his business by fishing on Current River and going to casinos with friends. He attended Emmanuel Baptist Church and was a faithful Christian.

Larry married Patricia Ann (Watts) Thompson on April 3, 1965, who preceded him in death. They had one son, James.

Larry was also preceded in death by his sister, Louise Mitchell, and brother, Tom Thompson.

Larry is survived by his son, Jamie Thompson and wife, Sherri; grandsons, Nickolys Thompson, Austyn and Michelle Ipock of Springfield; and his brothers, Wayne and Pat Thomson of Crystal City, MO and Ron and Sue Thompson of St. Louis; along with several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the Doniphan City Cemetery.
