Obituary of Gary Darnell Garrett

Gary Darnell Garrett went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 19, 2024, at the age of 80. Gary was born on July 20, 1943, in Ridgely, Tennessee. Raised in Chicago, Gary’s family relocated to Doniphan when he was a sophomore in high school. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lee Garrett and his beloved sister, Charlotte (Garrett) Ormsby. He is survived by the love of his life, Delores (Wilson) Garrett and siblings, John Garrett and Judith (Garrett) Byerly. Upon retirement, Gary returned to the Doniphan area. It was in the midst of the epic flood of 2017, Gary and Delores moved to Warrenton.

Gary was only 17 when he married Delores. They had three kids by the age of 21. Together, Gary and Delores raised three beautiful daughters, Deborah and husband, Jim Schuknecht of Warrenton; Pamela and husband, Brian Moehl of Warrenton; and Lisa and husband, Larry Sheehy of Poplar Bluff. Gary and Delores have 15 grandchildren: Justin Robison; Sarah (Schuknecht) Hunt; Stephen, Greg, Amy, David, Jonathan, Faith and Natalie Schuknecht; Garrett, Ian and Elijah Moehl; Michelle Sheehy, Heather (Sheehy) Taylor and Bryant Sheehy. The number of great-grandchildren will soon total 32. Gary valued life.

God blessed everything that Gary put his hand and his heart toward. He was skilled in automotive repair, residential construction, and gardening. Gary was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was an ardent reader and researcher, enthusiastically sharing natural remedies with others. In addition to investing 35 years at Chrysler Corporation, Gary leaves behind a legacy of trees, shrubs, gardens, homes, and buildings designed to bless future generations. More importantly, he leaves behind a wealth of family and friends who love him and look forward to one day reuniting with him in his new heavenly neighborhood.

Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Doniphan, MO, on Saturday, February 24, 2024, beginning at 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Amity Cemetery.
