Obituary of George A Godwin

George Archie Godwin, born July 19, 1928, in Avant, AR, to the late Thomas R. and Carrie Armenda (Casey) Godwin, was the eldest son of five boys: Willis Godwin, Nathaniel Godwin, Charles Godwin, and Jerry Godwin, who survive, and three sisters, who have preceded him in death, Ethel Godwin Young, Pauline Godwin Dennis, Evaline Godwin Condley.

 

Archie is survived by his wife of 78 years, Lois Genevieve Richmond. They were married on August 19, 1946, in Fresno, CA. They were blessed with seven children. The first-born girl, Clara Louise Godwin, was born in 1947 and died in 1948. Their other children are as follows: Daniel Edward Godwin and wife, Coeta, Mitchell Wayne Godwin and wife, Lynda Sue, Valenda Joyce Godwin Adams, and husband, Carl Wayne, Thomas Richard Godwin and wife, Nelda, Donna Gail Godwin Smith and husband, Chuck, and Anthony Robert Godwin. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

 

Archie was baptized in 1955, in the Church of the First Born by Brother Bobby Toland. Archie was a faithful member and preached for many years.

 

Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, beginning at 11:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Brother Larry Couch will be officiating, and burial will be in the Naylor Memorial Cemetery.
