Obituary of Dean Montgomery

Dean Montgomery, 76, of Gatewood, Missouri, died Friday, April 6, 2012, at St. Louis University Hospital.
Mr. Montgomery was born on January 20, 1936, to the late Ralph J. and Mildred (Shelabarger) Montgomery. He retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company in Peoria, Illinois, and was a Union Electrician. He then continued working as a grain and livestock farmer, over the road truck driver, heavy equipment operator, and enjoyed working on various machines. Mr. Montgomery was in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served as a warrant officer and trained as a helicopter pilot. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #87 and the Eagles Club AERIE #4443.
On July 19, 1958, he married Mildred Bishop in Pekin, Illinois, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Lisa Schmidt of Butler, Alabama, and Kim Hollis of Thayer, Missouri; one son, Randy Montgomery of Doniphan; four grandchildren, Melanie Andrews, Rodney Hollis, Byron Montgomery and Brandi Montgomery; four great-grandchildren, Hollis Andrews, Sirus Andrews, Sidney Andrews and Ashlyn Hollis. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Franklin D. Montgomery, two sisters, Mary Ellen Cooney and Merla Jean Montgomery.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at 3:00 PM at Liberty Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Liberty Freewill Baptist Church.
