Obituary of Fred Long

Frederick H. (Fred) Long, 67, of Doniphan, Missouri, passed away June 30, 2012, at his residence. Mr. Long, son of Henry B. and Pearl M. (Billings) Long was born September 13, 1944, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was co-owner/manager of Fred's in Doniphan. Mr. Long enjoyed traveling, gardening, flowers and Current River and was a strong supporter of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the U.S. Bank of Doniphan and Citizen of the Year of Doniphan in 2008. Mr. Long was an active member of the Doniphan First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. Fred loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren. On February 13, 1966, he married Carolyn Wright at Paragould, Arkansas, who survives of the home. Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Stan Schultz of Doniphan; two sisters, Helen (and husband Allen) Addington of Memphis, Tennessee, and Harriet Ponder of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas: one brother, Alan (and wife Susan) Long of Little Rock, Arkansas; and five grandchildren, Patrick, Michael, Samantha, Allison and Brooklyn Schultz, all of Doniphan. Others survivors include brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clayton and Pat Jamison of Doniphan and brother-in-law, Ron Wright of Doniphan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Pearl Long and one brother, Gene Smith. Visitation for Mr. Long will be Monday July 2, 2012, from 5 to 8 P.M. with funeral services at the First Baptist Church in Doniphan on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at 11:00 A.M. with Dr. Michael Phelps and Brother Dale Rickman officiating. Memorials made be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, American Cancer Society, or St. Jude's Hospital.
