Phillip Austin Brooks, 84, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Monday, August 20, 2012, at Current River Nursing Center in Doniphan.
Mr. Brooks was born November 23, 1927, in Ripley County, Missouri, to the late Ed and Cora (Carter) Brooks.
He was a decorated veteran in the U.S. Army having served in World War II. He was a member of the Fairview Church of God and enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Mr. Brooks was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.
On April 6, 1949, he married Emily P. Thompson in Piggott, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on July 9, 1989. He later married Edna Smith on June 26, 1993, in Fairdealing, Missouri, and she survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Judy Tompkins of Patterson, Missouri, Phyllis Huber of Viola, Arkansas, and Susan Mathis of Fairdealing, Missouri; three sons, Dennis Brooks of Doniphan, Mark Brooks of Boomer, North Carolina, and Daniel Brooks of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; three brothers, Richard Brooks and Vernon Brooks, both of St. Louis and Wendell Brooks of Doniphan; and seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by one son, Timothy Brooks; three brothers, Newell, Ernie and Glen; four sisters Imogene, Kathleen Dorie, and Eldeen; and one grandson.
Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Wednesday August 22, 2012, at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be Thursday morning, August 23, 2012, at 11 AM at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Doniphan with John Payne officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Church of God Cemetery with full Military Honors.
