Ruth Virginia Lyday, 94, of Doniphan, Missouri, departed this life on Saturday, January 5, 2013. Mrs. Lyday, daughter of Ralph Lester and Gertrude (Hayden) Pollard, was born July 14, 1918, in St. Louis, Missouri. She raised her family in Kansas City, Missouri, where she was an active member of Stony Point Christian Church. When Mrs. Lyday moved to Doniphan, she became a member of the First Christian Church. Her main profession in life was raising her family. She later became an L.P.N. and had been a lifetime member of the V.F.W. She was married to Carl Ponder and he preceded her in death on December 8, 1975. She later married Richard Lyday and he preceded her in death on November 26, 1994. Surviving are two sons; Charles Ponder of Beverly Hills, Florida, and David Ponder of Olathe, Kansas; one daughter, Susan Hill of Doniphan, Missouri; two step-sons, James Lyday and Jeffrey Lyday, both of Ohio; two brothers, Thomas Pollard of Afton, Missouri, and Robert Pollard of Old Town, Florida; thirteen grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouses, two sons, Robert Ponder and Dennis Ponder, one daughter, Faye, one step-son, Chris Lyday and seven brothers and sisters. Visitation for Mrs. Lyday will be Saturday, January 12, 2013, beginning at noon in the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother John Harwell officiating. Burial will be in the Amity Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
