Obituary of Katherine Thomas

Katherine "Kathy" Thomas, 76, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Thursday, January 31, 2013, at the Ripley County Memorial Hospital in Doniphan. Mrs. Thomas, daughter of Overton H. and Barbara (Sadorf) Snell, was born May 18, 1936, in St. Louis, Missouri. She had retired from the Doniphan R-1 School District as a Junior High School Social Studies Teacher where for many years she was recognized as the student body's Favorite teacher. Mrs. Thomas enjoyed golf, playing bridge, and whitewater rafting. She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Doniphan, a charter member of the Doniphan Athletic Booster Club, an active member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, Missouri Retired Teachers Association, the Tuesday Reading Club and many Bridge Clubs in Doniphan. Her favorite moments were time spent with family, especially her children and grandchildren. On August 25, 1956, she was married to Frank Thomas at First Christian Church in St. Louis. He survives. Also surviving are two children, Jim (Robin) Thomas of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Janice (Bob) Adams of Doniphan; seven grandchildren; Kacie (Dustin) Turner of Ozark, Missouri, Ashley (Michael) Mertzlufft of St. Genevieve, Missouri, Emilie (Seann) Howe, Allie Thomas, Zachary Thomas, Amber Tibbs, Alexis Tibbs and one great-grandson, Kandenn Howe, all of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; and one brother, Jim (Carolyn) Snell of House Springs, Missouri. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her parents, Overton and Barbara Snell. Visitation will be Saturday evening, February 2, 2013, from 5 - 8 p.m. in the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will start at 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon, February 3, 2013, in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Brother John Harwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Doniphan City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church in Doniphan.
