Obituary of J. D. Whiteside

J. D. Whiteside, 82, life-long resident of Doniphan, Missouri, died Saturday, March 29, 2008, at the Current River Nursing Center in Doniphan. Mr. Whiteside was born April 9, 1925, at Flatwoods, Missouri. He was an auctioneer and cattle farmer and drove a school bus for many years. He was a member of the Pilgrim's Rest Church, Masonic Lodge of Grandin, life-time member of the Doniphan VFW Post #3485 and was a past member of the Missouri State Auctioneer's Association and the National Association of Auctioneers. Mr. Whiteside was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the Phillipines. He was in the First Calvary Mounted Division, out of Fort Riley, Kansas. On December 7, 1946, he was married to Mildred Eileen (Mickey) Whitley at Junction City, Kansas. She preceded him in death on December 3, 1993. He is survived by four sons: Dennis Whiteside of Dover, Arkansas, Randy Whiteside of Doniphan, and Rocky Whiteside and Robin Whiteside, both of Campbell, Missouri; one sister, Nadine Dyer of Boliver, Missouri; ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Mr. Whiteside was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Whiteside and Gladys Atkins Whiteside. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 1, 2008, from 5 - 8:00 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at the funeral home chapel beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Marvin Richards officiating. Burial will be in the Doniphan City Cemetery.
