Obituary of Emily Joplin

Emily Joplin, 84, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at the Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. Mrs. Joplin was born June 17, 1923, in Ripley County, Missouri. She enjoyed making quilts, cooking, being with her grandchildren and playing Rook. Mrs. Joplin was twice-named "Neighbor of the Year" at Ecumenical Village in Jonesboro for her many acts of kindness. She was a member of the Bono Church of Christ. On April 21, 1944, she was married to Fred Joplin. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1993. Mrs. Joplin is survived by three daughters; Elaine Sims of West Memphis, Arkansas, Frieda Johnson and husband, George, and Barbara Brannen and husband, Larry, all of Jonesboro; one son, Dwight Joplin of Jonesboro; three grandchildren, Lori Brannen, Eddie Dale and Eric Joplin; four great-grandchildren, Weston Brannen, Jillian Clark, Kale Joplin and Peyton Dale; one sister, Pauline Cody of Jonesboro and one brother, Jim Stilwell of Doniphan, Missouri. She was also preceded in death by one son, Charles Freddie Joplin, one grandson, Justin Brannen, her parents, Charles Stilwell and Lucretia Patterson Stilwell, and several brothers and sisters. Visitation will be Saturday morning, June 7, 2008, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with burial to be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
