Raymond Darnell Garrett, 88, of Doniphan, MO passed peacefully from this life at home on April 24, 2014. Raymond spent his final days surrounded by family and friends who were celebrating his life and love of family.
Raymond was born in Ridgely, Tennessee to Billy Daniel and Lelar Beatrice Garrett on July 18, 1925. It was in that area that he met the love of his life, Allie Lee Autry, and married on September 26, 1942 at the young age of 17. They spent 71 loving and dedicated years together raising 4 children and enjoying many, many grandchildren.
For many years, Raymond worked on the farm and raised cattle. He also enjoyed various other occupations including truck driving, carpentry and working at Sunbeam. Raymond was able to retire from the Current River Vocational School as the building trades instructor. After his retirement, Raymond spent many enjoyable days fishing on Current River and surrounding lakes. He also enjoyed taking others fishing and introducing them to his favorite pastime.
Raymond was a member of Amity Missionary Baptist church and was an ardent teacher of the gospel, spent many years as song leader, and taught Sunday school for 35 years. After Raymond was physically unable to attend church, he graciously hosted Wednesday night Bible studies with members of Amity church in his home.
