Obituary of Maggie Bennett

Please share a memory of Maggie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Magalene "Maggie" Bennett, 78, of Doniphan, Missouri, passed away on May 29, 2014, at a hospital in St. Louis. Maggie was born in Mayfield, Kentucky, on May 10, 1936, to parents Rollie and Leona Burkhart. Over her 78 years, she worked as a waitress, a factory worker, a truck driver and a seamstress. She married Bobbie Bennett in January, 1975. While her doctors said her heart gave out during surgery, her family said her heart gave out when her husband died in 2009 and again when their beloved dog, Foxy Lady, passed away this spring. Maggie's favorite past time was laughing and telling stories. According to family, most of them were true. She was a prankster who liked telling and hearing jokes. She never met a stranger and welcomed anyone into her family. Maggie was almost never spotted without a mug of coffee or a cigarette and watched just about every Cardinals game. She enjoyed her career traveling and driving truck with her husband before they retired. Maggie and her husband made and sold woodcrafts at fairs. She quilted and was a gifted seamstress, giving her homecare nurses embroidered towels at Christmas. Her family is thankful to all the friends who checked in on Maggie throughout the years. Maggie lived a big life and loved deeply. She was proud of her children and grandchildren. Maggie is survived by two children, Patsy Luckey of Old Appleton and Robert Watkins of Scott City; her sister Ruby Cox of Paducah, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Jennifer Watkins of Cape Girardeau and Kristen Meyer of Houston, Texas; and one great-grandchild, Tanisha Watkins of Cape Girardeau. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Eddie Burkhart, Freddie Burkhart, Lexi Morris and Eunice Tynes; son Steavon Watkins; and grandson Daniel Watkins. A viewing will be held on Sunday evening, June 1, 2014, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. A graveside service will follow on Monday morning, June 2, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Doniphan City Cemetery, where Maggie will rest between her husband and son.
