Obituary of Harry Davis

Harry Eugene Davis of Mayville, Michigan, passed from this life to a better one on August 22, 2014. Harry was born to Henry and Bonny Davis on November 7, 1950, but only after what some might consider quite an adventure. The family had no reliable transportation and the doctor was in Van Buren, so it fell to Clyde Sisco and his flatbed truck to get Bonny to her destination. A mattress was thrown on the flatbed for Bonny to lie on and since there were no tail lights on the truck, John Probst, Bonny's younger brother, put a red handkerchief over a flashlight and sat at the tail-end of the truck. It must have been a rough trip for Momma to be, since shocks on vehicles and paved roads were a thing of the future. Harry spent his childhood years around the Handy area. His grandparents, Elmer and Catherine Probst's home, was the center of the community. He romped with Jimmy, June and Johnny and his cousins there. The Sisco kids and Anita were more like siblings than cousins. The homeplace was where Harry and many others learned to love and respect others. It was also where the love of music was instilled. All of these "lessons" would be carried with him throughout his life. Harry's teenage and early adult years were spent around the Briar area. He loved being around the home of Joe and Reva Hubbard and became very close to the whole family. He considered them an extension of his own family. In 1972 Harry married Pamela Cullison and to that union a beautiful baby girl was born, Cherie Lynn Davis. Harry worked in the timber industry and did mechanic work for several years. In September of 1981 God joined Harry and Glenda Hampton Brewer. He was crazy for this beautiful, loving woman and was so thankful that God gave her to him. He felt very blessed for almost thirty-three years. Harry and Glenda lived around Missouri for a few years, becoming long-haul truckers to make a living. They then moved to Michigan, still in the trucking business, where Harry would spend the remainder of his years. Harry loved cars, especially hot-rods. He spent many hours tinkering on one rig or another in his barn. Always on the lookout for his next project, Harry was a natural at repairing vehicles, a talent he learned from his Daddy. Harry also loved strumming his guitar and relished the times he could be around family and join in the jam sessions. Harry was preceded in death by his father, his in-laws, James Polk and Lula Mae Hampton and one daughter-in-law, Cheryl Brewer. His legacy continues with his cherished daughter, Cherie (Ben) Pulliam and grandsons, Derek and Dalton of Naylor, Missouri; sons Greg (Kathy) Brewer and children-Chris, Amy, Alicia, Shelly, Luke and Casey and Gary (Tamara) Brewer-children Joshua, Matthew, David, Chelsea, Heather and Dakota; and several great-grandchildren who would pile up on his lap to give/get loving. Harry loved being with Cherie, Derek and Dalton and he was also very close to his grand-daughter, Amy, and her loving family. Harry's quiet, loving ways live on in the hearts of his wife, Glenda, his mother Bonny, brothers Jimmy (Pat) and Johnny and sisters June (Joe) Watson and Karen Gant.
