Velva Jean Hawkins, 77 year old resident of Piedmont, MO died Thursday, September 18, 2014 in the St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO. Mrs. Hawkins was born August 4, 1937, in Oxly, MO to the late Orden and Imogene Watkins Christian. She was a member of the Church of Christ and helped over 150 children by being a foster parent. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and sewing.
On May 14, 1953, in Success, AR, she was married to Philip L. Hawkins, who preceded her in death on January 9, 1997. Also preceding her in death was one son, Anthony Hawkins, and one brother, Lester Christian.
Surviving are two sons, Eric(Skyler) Hawkins of Springfield, MO; Thomas Hawkins of Poplar Bluff, MO; five daughters, Theresa(Junior) Thiele of Silva, MO; Sheryl Hawkins of Piedmont, MO; Kari Guccione of Clayton, MO; Shannon Hawkins of Poplar Bluff, MO; Ashley Hawkins of Greenville, MO; one sister, Joann Curran of Pacific, MO; one brother, Sonny Christian of Bismarc, MO; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Graveside services for Mrs. Hawkins will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 26, 2014 at the Pope Chapel Cemetery with Bro. Robert Randolph officiating. Visitation will begin at Noon on Friday in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel.
