Coach Byrd left an indelible mark on all of his students. He was a kind and principled man and will be sorely missed. One of the memories I have of his teaching science was that in biology class, when evolution was presented (as required), Coach Byrd said, "I don't believe in this stuff, but I have to present it to the class. You all decide what you do with the information." I wasn't an athlete in school, but I can say that Coach Byrd didn't just care about his athletes, but about all of us.

Darlene, Bob was one of the "great ones". I often refer to the ball park days working with him. He gave me my love of baseball, umpiring, and trick plays. I had a lot of respect for him. No one knew the rule book better than Bob. I also remember the fishing days we spend together. I did not hear about it till after the funeral but my heart goes out to you and Karen. He will be greatly missed.

Spent many happy hours in biology class with Coach Byrd. In a class full of immature tenth graders I don't think I ever saw him lose his temper even once with us and sometimes we deserved it.

Coach Byrd, You were one of my first mentors, my first employer (outside my dad)and one of the finest men I've ever known. I am SO glad that I took the time recently to visit with you at home, to share "ball park" stories and to reflect about fishing trips together for Smallmouth and Jack. I join the host of folks here in saying "I will miss you friend". May the Lord keep you close.
