Ruth May Slayton, 89, departed this life Monday, November 17, 2014, at 11:23 a.m. at the West Vue Rehabilitation Center in West Plains, Missouri.
She was born in Flatwoods, Missouri, on June 4, 1925, to Albert O. Penrod and Ida May (Cartwright) Penrod. On November 30, 1943, she married Norman W. Slayton at Corning, Arkansas, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons: Barry W. Slayton and wife, Marge of West Plains and David B. Slayton and wife, Rae of Union, Missouri; two grandchildren, Renata Slayton of Alexandria, Virginia, and Valerie Slayton and fiancé, Joe Johnson, and one great-granddaughter, Carrie Slayton, all of Columbia, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Margaret Hopwood, Betty Slayton, Ruthie Penrod and Barbara Slayton; brothers-in-law, Keith Herrick and Roger Slayton; and many nieces and nephews.
Her parents, her husband and five siblings preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be held at noon on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at the Springhill Cemetery in Fairdealing, Missouri.
Memorials may be made to Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains or Springhill Baptist Cemetery.
