Obituary of Charles Bowman

Charles Russell Bowman, 77, life-time resident of Doniphan, Missouri, died Thursday, June 11, 2015, at the Current River Nursing Center in Doniphan. Mr. Bowman, son of Nona and Laura Rose (Davidson) Bowman, was born June 15, 1937, in Doniphan. He had been in banking and finance prior to his retirement. Mr. Bowman was a very community-oriented citizen, working tirelessly to make Doniphan a better place to live and grow. He had been a previous member of Kiwanis, Doniphan Neighborhood Assistance Program (DNAP), Industrial Development Board, Doniphan R-1 School Board, Ripley County Chamber of Commerce, Doniphan Church of God and the Missouri National Guard. He was a proud supporter of the American Cancer Society Duck Races. Due in part to his unselfish efforts for the Doniphan community, he had been named Citizen of the Year and was a Grand Marshall for the annual Labor Day Parade. On June 10, 1961, he was married to Olga Patterson at the Doniphan Church of God and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Susan Skaggs of Doniphan and Brenda Bowman (Curt) Shackelford of Waterloo, Illinois; one brother, Marion Bowman of Doniphan; six grandchildren, Amanda, Daniel and Kaitlin Shackelford and Trent, Meagan and Allison Skaggs; and one great-granddaughter, Emilee Skaggs. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Bonnie Chase and one brother, James Allred. Visitation will take place Monday evening, June 15, 2015, from 5 - 8 p.m. in the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. Funeral services will be Tuesday morning, June 16, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Larry Earl officiating. Burial will follow in the Towles Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Charles Bowman Memorial Fund.
