Obituary of James Samons

James Freeman Samons, 66, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Mr. Samons, son of the late Freeman and Olliedean (Parker) Samons, was born February 14, 1943, in Reyno, Arkansas. He had been a chief engineer on a riverboat. Mr. Samons enjoyed woodworking, horses, gardening, and volunteering with the Sheltered Workshop.
On July 29, 1964, he was married to Bertha Almeda Thomas at Corning, Arkansas. She survives.
Also surviving are five children; Tonya Barton, Kevin Samons, Arlan Samons, Patrick Samons and Brandon Samons, all of Doniphan; two sisters, Linda Masterson and Shelia Price, both of Corning; one brother, Donnie Samons of Corning; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Tamra Samons, and one grandson.
A public memorial service will be held Saturday morning, May 2, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the family home located five miles east on K Highway off Highway 21 North in Ripley County, Missouri.
