This man right here is the best Pawpaw a girl could ever ask for. I can’t believe he is gone and my heart is broken. Every time I would see him he’d say “what’s up girl” and give me a big hug. I’m gonna miss being able to have moments like that with him. I’ve always wanted to race and play music just like him. I was always so proud to tell people he was my Pawpaw because of how awesome he was. I looked up to him, I wanted to be like him. Maybe one day I’ll get to do the things he did in his honor, but I do know I’ll never be as awesome as he was. I love you Pawpaw Walt and I will miss you forever.❤️

There are so many wonderful memories to share of this amazing man…
Race season, where we all had so much fun and you made me a nervous wreck. No matter where you placed you had the biggest smile on your face afterward and loved the adrenaline rush.
On stage, where you were a total ROCKSTAR!! I swear, I could sit and watch and listen to you play for hours and never get tired of hearing it. The pride I felt while watching you do the things that you loved and made you happy.
That first trip to Florida when Jeff ran the red light lol… When I became your chauffeur after that show on Hwy W in Poplar Bluff. I was pregnant with Carlie and you whined all the way home because you couldnt smoke in the car because the smoke made me sick. You told me you would just tough it out for us though. That night you played in the middle of nowhere, Aaron in the trunk part of the suv and you swore we saw a Sasquatch. Everyone was freaked out and we sat in silence for miles until you broke it by yelling “Holy Sh*t, I think that was a sawwwwsquatch!!!” Lake trips where you tried teaching us girls to ski and it was a total bust. We never made it up but had fun anyway. All our fishing trips with tons of laughs. That last trip you and I took together to see grandpa before he passed. The nights we sat together in the store talking about life, the past and things we looked forward to in the future. That time you said I should go ahead and thank you for having good genes..lol :) I could go on for days listing all the best times with you.
There are so many wonderful memories made throughout my life and you are in all my favorite parts. I couldn't ask for a better dad or grandpa for my girls. We have all been truly blessed to be able to call you ours and I have always been proud to be your daughter. I will love you for ALWAYS!!
Love, Heather

Q: What will you never forget about Walter?
A: I will never forget the first time I met him. It was a little weird because I didn’t know him. I met him at the race track and from then on I went often to see him. Every time I went to the race track I ask someone where he was at. I always found him at his race car fixing something. I will never forget him.

Walter, you were like a father to me, and you never treated me or Kobi any different than if we were your sons. I respected you and looked up to you in so many ways. We said that we loved each other and it was the truth, and that meant a lot to me. You have always been there for my mother since day one, and I couldn't have been happier for you two, you were her world. You two were literally true best friends. You were always happy with what you had, and I never once heard you complain about your life. I could definitely stand to learn a lesson from you about that. You have a million friends and people that love you, and you will always be remembered. Always honest, hard working, hard playing, and kind and loving to everyone. I couldn't have asked for a better father figure in my life, and I couldn't have imagined a better man for my mother. Walter Dunn you are THE MAN!!! You were always first to offer help and be there in a moments notice to help anyone, any time, that needed it. You loved to help and never asked for anything in return. You had more cool hobbies than anyone else I have ever met, and I hope you loved every single moment. I will never forget you Walter Dunn, I love you forever and always. ROCK N ROLL FOR ALL ETERNITY

I met Walter and Janet through my sister Janie Gatewood about 15 years ago. Through good food, cold beer and lots of laughter we became friends. Oh and did I forget the trip to Pensacola Florida. We all had such a wonderful time. Walter was the guy you could start a conversation with and you would have thought you new him for years. He was loved by my family and will be greatly missed.

For Walter's family and friends, my heart and prayers go out to all of you. Walt was such a great guy. I always had fun being around him. He was such a big help to me and the radio station in the early days of Bonestock, letting us use some of his gear and always making sure people and things were taken care of. He was a great leader and diplomat when it came to our local music scene. Hillbillyz was a great place for us Bonehead folk and we always had a home for Halloween and New Year parties. I will always remember these times and I'm just glad to have known him and Janet and the extended family. Let's all set our minds toward heavenly things so we can all be together again. Love to you all.

I have struggled with what to write. There have been sooo many memories since you and Janet have brought us into your family!!! The one memory that I'll never forget is when you guys took me and Boo to the Whitsnake concert when I was 8 months pregnant with Bailey. Everyone thought it was so awesome that I was rocking front row, big fat and pregnant. We will miss you so much, but will always cherish the memories we got with you!!!

In 2009 Walter, Paul, and I went to Talladega to the Nascar Race in my Dad's motor home. On the way home I was asleep in the front seat. When I awoke and looked around, we were passing car's on the interstate like they were sitting still. I looked at Walter and said how fast are we going. Walter with a big grin on his face said "Well we are holding her at 85, but been 90 a few times". I never said a word, but needless to say it cost us about $300 to fill her up!!!

I have tried writing this over and over. There’s no real way to sum up a friendship like this in so many words. We spent endless nights together and playing pool where he would beat me so many times and he would pull of some of the most amazing shots with him to say that was lucky but we all knew it wasn’t lucky every now and then I would get that one win and get the chance to say who’s racking he loved it or the time we went to Pevely for a sprint car race first off you have to understand how if Walter could save a dollar he wasn’t missing that chance with that being said the entire race, we would walk a quarter mile for two beer because the ones at the track was too expensive I could go on and on with stories but the fact is Walter was a amazing person it could be the whole world against me and I would turn around and Walter would be right behind me he was truly the best friend I ever had rest easy buddy I love ya and I can’t drive 55

Who would have known the last time I would’ve ever been able to hangout with you was the day that week took this picture. That night we all cut up, made memories and had the best time. I remember that night you put your arm around me and told me that if I ever needed anything to give you a call and you’d be right there. I’m gonna miss you finishing in the pond and stopping what you’re doing to talk with us. I’m gonna miss hearing you call dad “old man” every time you see him. You’ve been in my life ever since I was a little kid. You were always kind, loving, funny and knew how to have fun. We love you and are sure going to miss you a lot.

I have lots of memories with Walter. We've been very close friends for over 20 years. One of my favorite memories was of a road trip he Michael Aaron took to Talladega a few years ago. We took Michael's dad's motor home. It rain allot that weekend when we parked it sunk into the ground. So our campsite was right off turn three and we was on the street closest to the track on a corner sight. Everyone came by our campsight and it became a party hub. There was a big mub puddle in the middle of the road and people kept cutting through our site to go around it. Well after several adult beverages Walter con me into mud wrestle these girls that wanted to mud wrestle. There was no way I was doing this but he talked me into it. Everyone got a big kick out of it. I'm sure there are pictures floating around some where. We'll when we got ready to leave we had to get pulled out of the mud with a tractor. Once we got out we stopped for gas and Walter drove home. Michael and I slept. Michael woke up and seen we was passing everything on the road. He asked Walter how fast he was running and Walter told him it was buried at least 85. It was a crazy trip but it was so much fun. I'm so glad I have those memories. He was my best friend and I'm going to miss him very much.

Q: What will you never forget about Walter?
A: Walter, Carl and myself was fishing on current river one day. It was a cold day early spring. The boat was going down current a little sideways when all the sudden we hit a log under the water. Walter went flying out of the boat into the river in like 3 seconds he was walking on water to get back in boat. Our day was over as he was freezing. Lol we laughed so hard we hurt. Was a great day of my many awesome memories of my best friends. Gonna miss you Walt . My redneck camo wearing buddy. The most genuine person I have ever had the privilege to know.

I first met Walt 25 years ago when he asked me to play in his band. He came up to me after our first show and said "Man, you ROCK ! He made me feel like a rock star. That was Walt, he always made everyone feel special.
Later, after the gig, we stopped at a convenience store desperate for food. All they had at 3:00 in the morning was one slice of pizza. We shared it, (or should I say inhaled it) he looks at me with a big grin and says, "Well, that was just enough to piss you off." I'll never forget that smile.
We've shared so many good times on and off the stage.
25 years of memories and friendship. My life is definitely better having known you, Walt. I'm gonna miss you...

Hearing that Walter Dunn has passed was sad news indeed. I instantly flash back to all the fun we had. He was a fine musician, a good friend to those who knew him, and a excellent person.
My band Drivin Rain had played a lot of shows at his club. He always took care of all the bands, way above and beyond the call of duty. We spent the night at his home many times, and we played lots of shows together with his bands.
Walter was one of those type people who completely invented a music scene in his area. From preforming shows with his own bands, or by giving lots of acts a place to play, and a place for people to see new bands. When requested he would even stock the bar with actual rock stars and music legends. For awhile he brought the vibe of LA’s Rainbow to The Ozarks.
Now he has taken off on the big Tour. Have a pleasant journey my friend, and please tell Tommy, Geep and Cuz that I miss them down here.
So it goes......

Once I drove, like, 40 miles to waitress at the bar for him. It was slow so he sent me home early, but not before he got 12.50 of my pay back for sending me home 2 hours early. I called Doug and said “you won’t believe what that tightwad, Walter Dunn did” LOL ...that “tight wad” was one of the best people I ever met. Doug and I still laugh about that night. We’re sure going to miss him.
