Obituary of Betty Jean Hampton
Betty Jean Hampton, 86, of Fairdealing entered the gates of Heaven on Saturday, June 8, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Betty was born on Oct. 2, 1937, in Keiser, Arkansas to the late Bolden and Helen (Rice) Thrasher. She has been a resident of Fairdealing for 62 years.
She was united in marriage to Rev. Paul Hampton on Sept. 29, 1956, in Rockford, Illinois. Betty was of the Southern Baptist faith and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She retired from Southwestern Bell and was a member of numerous organizations, including Telephone Pioneers, Samaritan’s Purse, Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), Democratic Women’s Association, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the AARP. Betty always kept beautiful plants and flowers and especially enjoyed spending time with all her family and friends.
Survivors are one brother, E.B. Thrasher of Oklahoma; and one sister, Maedean Thrasher of Potosi. Also surviving is one son, Jerry Hampton and wife, Becky, of Fairdealing; one daughter, Carol Morris and husband, Jimmy, of Fairdealing; six grandchildren, Chris Zink and wife, Rachel, of Poplar Bluff, Malinda Roark and husband, Andy, of Fairdealing, April Aud and husband, Doug, of Poplar Bluff, Angela Phillips and husband, Tim, of Fairdealing, Tiffany Williams and husband, Terry, of Poplar Bluff, and Myra Aquino and husband, David, of Florida; great-grandchildren, Austin, Aaron, Allyson, Isaac, Eli, Dominick, Ashley, Allison, Hunter, Gavin, Ethan, Nathan, Lily, Taylor, Brant, Breann, Jace and Luca; and seven great-great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. Paul Hampton, her parents, Bolden and Helen Thrasher, and two brothers, Boyce Thrasher of DeSoto and Daniel Thrasher of Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Visitation will be noon, Wednesday, June 12th at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Doniphan with funeral services following at 2 pm with Rev. Luther Abbott officiating. Burial will follow at Center Hill Cemetery in Fairdealing.
